His music and his songs were a cry from the jungle, a loud cry of Cuban music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was born on October 5 (Pop Music Day), 1951. He reached the age of 71, lived long enough to leave for history a new rhythm: \"La timba\" (son, guaracha, mambo and rumba), all fused in a musical pottage with Caribbean and pop-jazz flavors. True <em>funky <\/em>Cuban style.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"414\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/www.afrokuba.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.afrokuba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM-1.jpeg 414w, https:\/\/www.afrokuba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM-1-300x243.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.afrokuba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM-1-15x12.jpeg 15w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>But, there is more, it was the detonator of a boom of Cuban music (salsa with timba), massive dancing, multitudinous concerts of joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He brought massive joy to an entire people in difficult times, in times when, as Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed said, music can save an entire people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cort\u00e9s achieved as much as he set out to do, he wanted great Cuban music to travel all over Cuba in dredges full of sound equipment to perform concerts in stadiums, squares and parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Luis Cort\u00e9s is going to meet his musical friends up there in heaven, his life is rising, his genius is rising. He is going to meet Juan Formell, Adalberto and Rev\u00e9: three of the greatest contemporary timba musicians of the end of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.afrokuba.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2236\" width=\"372\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.afrokuba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM.jpeg 263w, https:\/\/www.afrokuba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2022-04-19-at-1.00.03-PM-16x12.jpeg 16w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 372px) 100vw, 372px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Also at the reception will be: D\u00e1maso P\u00e9rez Prado, Aresenio, Pi\u00f1eiro, Matamoros, Eg\u00fces y Lay, Jorr\u00edn, Rolando Vald\u00e9s... popular classics of the best Cuban music.
